Important!!
- Flex your leg calf muscles for 3 minutes every hour while awake. Avoid crossing or massaging your legs.
- Start walking the first day or night after surgery even if it is just a walk around the bed.
1. Prescriptions:
- Use medications as prescribed. You may resume your pre-op medications, except aspirin and Motrin, which you should not take for one week after surgery.
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages – beer and wine included – for 48 hours. They do not mix with anesthesia and may make you very sick. Also do not mix alcoholic beverages with pain pills.
- Do not do anything that requires any coordination for 48 hours after surgery and while you are taking pain medication. The medication and/or anesthetic agents may interfere with good judgment.
- DO NOT DRIVE FOR ONE WEEK AFTER SURGERY.
2. Please call Dr. Andochick if you notice any excessive bleeding, drainage, swelling or soreness at the site of your surgery.
3. You will have a nasal splint in place. You will also have nasal packing in place, which will be removed in 3-7 days.
4. Avoid blowing your nose or using straws for one week.
5. Glasses should not be worn for one month. If you absolutely need to wear your glasses, we will demonstrate how to tape them to your forehead to prevent them from resting on your nose.
6. Bathing: Do not shower until your splint is removed. Sponge baths and baths are permitted.
7. Keep your head elevated on several pillows for the first five days. Do not sleep so that pressure is placed on your nose.
8. Ice packs on your eyes are OK to use for the first 24-36 hours. Frozen peas in a Ziploc bag are lighter, not as cold and work well for this purpose.
9. Change the sponge under your nose as often as needed until your packing is removed.
10. You may drink liquids when you arrive home. By evening you may have a light meal.
11. Do not smoke for two weeks after surgery, as this affects healing.
12. Patients must not be left alone for 24 hours.
13. Do not hesitate to call the doctor’s office if you have any questions about your surgery. If it is necessary for you to contact Dr. Andochick after 5pm, when the office is closed, or on the weekend, please call the office number at 301.620.4200 and Dr. Andochick will be contacted to assist you with any problems or questions.
